Bettie Jeanne Altorfer

Bettie Jeanne Altorfer, age 89, of Tomahawk and Englewood, FL, passed away peacefully Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013 at her residence in Tomahawk.
Bettie was born July 23, 1924 in Darlington, the daughter of Charles Webb and Beulah Bird (Brinigar) Penniston. She married Kenneth Altorfer on May 25, 1947 in Chicago; he passed away Aug. 14, 2008.
Bettie was a graduate of Darlington High School, and attended Whitewater State College and UW – Madison. After Ken and Bettie married, they raised their two daughters in Waterloo, WI, and lived there until Ken retired. Bettie enjoyed sports, especially golf and bowling, was a Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers fan, and liked boating and fishing. Shopping, dining out and having pie and ice cream were also a few of her favorite things to do. She enjoyed the winter months spent near the Gulf of Mexico in Englewood and felt peace swimming in her pool and walking the beach. In the summer months, she liked spending time with family and friends in the beautiful Tomahawk area. Bettie was a very caring person, had a great sense of humor and will be sadly missed by those who loved and cared for her.
Survivors include her daughters, Judy (Ed) Privette, Merrill, and Janet (Larry) Anderson, Sun Prairie. Bettie is further survived by five grandchildren: Charlie Privette, Waukesha; Andy (Molly Ruprecht) Privette, Eau Claire; Aaron (Dawn) Anderson, Las Vegas, NV; Brett Anderson, Sun Prairie; and Cory (Holly) Anderson, Columbus; two great grandchildren: Katie and Cy Anderson, Columbus; and many nieces and nephews. She had many special memories with a number of good friends, including Glori Stahl of Englewood and Lucy Hanson of Waterloo. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sisters, and one brother.
A memorial service for Bettie Altorfer will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the United Methodist Church in Tomahawk. Pastor Debra Hastings will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday the 21st from 10 a.m. until the hour of services at 11 a.m. Inurnment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Tomahawk.
