Common Core Standards forum in Merrill

Citizens of Merrill will be providing an informational forum about the Common Core State Standards (CCSS), international educational standards, the federalization of education and the CCSS’s role in facilitating it, and the impact of related educational policies on the integrity of school choice options. The forum will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 20, from 6-7:30 p.m. at the New Testament Church civic center, N2519 County Rd. K, Merrill.
All interested and concerned citizens are invited to attend this free, non-political, informational presentation. There will be time allowed for questions and answers.
The guest speaker will be Karen Schroeder, president of Advocates for Academic Freedom (AAF), a non-profit educational consulting firm which provides information about the impact of social and political policies on the educational system. AAF works to protect the academic freedoms of every student. Schroeder believes that public education has nothing to fear from school choice policies. AAF provides insights into “why,” so that parents and taxpayers can more effectively address those issues which they support and/or oppose.
