There?s a Lot Going On!

Did you know that Merrill is home to a state-of-the-art Public Safety Training facility that attracts visitors to the community from across the United States? The Public Safety Center of Excellence, operated by Northcentral Technical College (NTC) offers advanced training in a technically integrated and realistic environment. The 36-acre site is located on the edge of the city of Merrill, an area rich with a natural environment suitable for multiple uses including water rescue and wilderness training. The program trains students and public sector on at least 21 programs to provide first-class training through state-of-the-art technologies and equipment, simulating real world experience in a controlled environment.
Did you also know that the city of Merrill’s municipal airport sees flights in and out each day by private and corporate aircraft with travelers from all reaches of the state and country?
Did you know that through the T.B. Scott Free Public Library patrons have access to the world at their fingertips? Users of the library may utilize information found within the walls of the library, or access information through inter-library loan from other libraries across the state. Also, materials can be delivered to anyone who cannot come to the library. There are also services, programs and equipment available to adults and youth year round.
Did you know Church Mutual was founded on March 4, 1897, by two Lutheran pastors and eight laymen from two Merrill congregations? Church Mutual insures more religious institutions than any other company in the United States, employing over 650 people in Merrill and an additional 250 nationwide.
Another interesting fact about Merrill is that it is home to one of six Russ Davis distribution centers which deliver fresh produce and other food products from around the world to retail stores throughout the Midwest.

Merrill is in the process of building a new central fire station to replace the station that was built in 1917 and twice had additions added. This will give Merrill a state of the art fire station that will meet the needs of the city for many decades to come.
The Merrill Park & Recreation Commission is in the process of selecting a site for the new dog park that was included in the 2013 Park & Recreation budget. This will be a great place for people to exercise and socialize their dogs, while giving dog owners a place to socialize as well.
The River District Development Foundation of Merrill, in cooperation with the city of Merrill, is in the process of acquiring land from Canadian National Railroad for the first phase of a river trail system in Merrill. The first phase will run from Center Avenue to Council Grounds State Park. This trail will be built and maintained with donated funds, material and labor.
