Applause to Merrill Fire Department:

On May 25, 2013 at 2:01 p.m., Lincoln County Dispatch Center dispatched the Merrill Fire Department for a report of a garage fire in the Town of Merrill. By 2:13 p.m., the department had water on the building trying to control and extinguish the fire.

Driving by, I happened to stop at the sight and in talking with bystanders found disgruntled people unhappy with the response time of the department. Twelve minutes from the time the call was placed until the first water was going on the burning building seems to be an excellent time of response and reaction.

Having a business as well as a home in the Town of Merrill, I was impressed and pleased to see the prompt response of the Fire Department. I think instead of criticizing our hardworking and conscientious public employees, we need to offer a round of applause for a job well done to the Merrill Fire Department and the firefighters for their efforts and dedication to this community and its residents.
