Central Wisconsin Finnish American Club meets at The Palmquist Farm

CWFAC (Central Wisconsin Finnish American Club) met for their 5th annual 1st-Sunday-of-June meeting (Summer Festival) at The Farm, a bed and breakfast country resort owned by Jim and Helen Palmquist in Brantwood, WI, on June 2nd, 2013. Participants came from the Brantwood/Tripoli/Tomahawk area as well as Wausau, Merrill, Chetek and a group from The Sons of Norway in Stevens Point. A wonderful luncheon of delicious homemade bread with sandwich fixings, fruits and vegetables, a rhubarb crisp dessert and mojakka, which is a Finglish word for a soup that consisted of succulent beef and vegetables.

Entertainment was provided by The Polish Cowboys from Merrill, who were renamed by our treasurer and secretary, Rod & June, as The Finnish Cowboys. So their names, Carl (who plays concertina) became Kalle and his son, John Utecht (trumpet and keyboard) became Jussi Jutekki (the letter j sounds like long u; there is no hard j sound in Finnish). Also, part of the entertainment was a raffle with some really nice items donated by members; a crowning of King and Queen for the day, Art and Isabelle Wakkinen of Tomahawk, dancing and “coffee time.” It was a very entertaining and relaxing day.
