At approximately 1:55 p.m. on Sunday, May 26, the Lincoln County 911 Center received a call of a motorcycle crash with injuries on Hwy. 51 near the 219 mile marker.
Witnesses reported that a motorcycle which was being operated by Leonard Benson, 86, of Merrill, was traveling northbound on Hwy. 51 when for unknown reasons he lost control of the vehicle and subsequently crashed.
Benson was thrown from the motorcycle and both vehicle and driver ended up in the median. Benson was treated on scene by a number of off-duty medical personnel that happened to witness the crash.
Merrill Fire Department ambulance and a Medivac helicopter from Wausau Aspirus Hospital responded to the scene. Benson was transported to Aspirus Hospital via helicopter with unknown injuries.
He was wearing a helmet. The crash is still being investigated.
