Jays move up

The Bluejay boys golf team kept rolling in the second leg of the seven-stage Valley meet, moving up into a tie for second place overall.
Merrill scored a runner-up 332 last Tuesday at Pine Valley, which moved the Jays into a tie with Marshfield for second overall. SPASH won again to increase its overall lead. Rapids, D.C. Everest, West and East filled out the field.
“The team played well again (Tuesday),” MHS coach Joe Mertens said. “Mike Pagel found his game again.
“I am so proud for the kids, they are really pulling together as a team and are energized with confidence enjoying the second-place conference position and the great start to the conference standings. I can tell the boys are feeling like they can succeed and want to play well for each other and for Merrill.”
Pagel’s runner-up 38-40-78 moved him up to seven overall, to blot out his first-meet struggles. Max Baranczyk’s 9th-place 43-39-82 moved him into a tie for 8th overall. Coty Guenther’s 41-44-85 tied for 13th and left him tied for 12th overall. Mitchell Finnegan shot 43-44-87 to miss All-Conference points by a stroke. Kevin Lee also competed at 45-48-93.
