Shopko Hometown sets sights on Tomahawk

A Shopko Hometown store could be coming to Tomahawk this fall. Shopko presented a site plan for the 35,700 square foot store to the city of Tomahawk Planning & Zoning Committee at its April meeting. The proposed site is among North Fourth Street, just north of Cty. A. That land is already part of the city from a previous annexation.
The proposed store, a scaled-down version of a full Shopko, would include a drive-through pharmacy and an optical center.
The Tomahawk City Council has granted preliminary plat approval for the development. The council also acted to start the process of establishing a new TIF district near the site and approved a road project for a new street to access the store.
If all goes according to plan, construction would begin this summer and the store would open in October.
Shopko, based in Green Bay, began developing the smaller Hometown stores in 2010 to serve communities of 3,000-8,000 people. There are already more than 300 Shopko Hometown stores in operation.
