Merrill police investigate theft from/of vehicles

At approximately 4:25 a.m. Friday, Merrill Police officers were dispatched to the 1600 block of East Main Street after a resident observed someone rummaging through their vehicle. Officers responded and found that one of the suspects dropped some of the items when the caller spotted them.
While officers were checking the area, a deputy from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation. The occupants of the vehicle were identified and during the course of the investigation admitted to committing several thefts in the area and were taken into custody. Several items of stolen property were located.
Officers took several reports of thefts during the course of the day and some of the property had already been recovered. Officers ask that if anyone has any further information or so anything suspicious during that time to contact police.
At approximately 5:42 a.m. Friday, officers took a report of a stolen vehicle in the 1600 block of East Main. An attempt to locate was sent out to surrounding agencies. The vehicle was later located by the Marathon County Sheriffs Department just into Shawano County. The vehicle was towed back to Merrill and turned over to the owner.
The investigations continue.
