Law enforcement responds to report of man with gun

On Friday at approximately 5:45 p.m. the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a man going armed with a .22 caliber rifle in the woods behind a rural home on Tesch Road in the town of Harding. The suspect had left the residence prior to officers arriving. It was alleged a verbal argument had taken place in the home with a female resident.
Deputies from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, officers from the Merrill Police Department, a Wisconsin DNR Conservation Warden, and Merrill EMS responded to the scene. A perimeter was established and the Lincoln County Special Response Team (SRT) was called in to search the buildings and surrounding wooded area for the suspect. The search was called off without locating the suspect after it was determined that there was no danger to the public.
The suspect in this matter, Steven M. Wrzesinski, 33, was taken into custody Saturday morning on an unrelated Wisconsin Department of Corrections warrant. The matter remains under investigation and at this point no charges are being recommended against Wrzesinski by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office related to his involvement in this incident. The matter will be forwarded to the Lincoln County District Attorney’s Office for review.
