Members of the T.B. Scott Library staff presented a check for $75 through their Casual Fridays program for the 2012-13 “After the Bell” program.
The “After the Bell” program provides a safe, supportive place for middle school students to learn new skills. “After the Bell” operates from right after school to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the Prairie River Middle School in Room 111 on days school is in session. Students do not need to attend the program each day to participate.
The program is supervised each day by an adult along with high school and community volunteers as needed and available. Each day the program offers students a safe, easily accessible place to go after school where they have the opportunity to participate in positive enrichment activities. Adult and older youth volunteers provide some enrichment programs throughout the year in addition to those led by program staff.
If youth are interested in participating, they can pick up information and required forms in the Prairie River Middle School office, at T.B. Scott Library, the UW-Extension office or the first day they attend the program. To keep the cost of the “After the Bell” program free to participants, the program has relied on the generosity and support of the local community to fund the program expenses for the past eight years. Without the continued support of individuals, businesses and community organizations, like the library staff this program would not be possible. Donations are used to cover the cost of snacks, program supplies and paying staff to provide daily supervision at the program.
