Girl Scouts celebrate ?Love-A-Pet?
On Saturday, Feb. 16, the Merrill Area Girl Scouts held their 24th annual “Love-A-Pet” celebration. This year, the event was held at the Maplecreek Dog Training Center. Girl Scout troops from Merrill, Wausau, Abbotsford, Ogema and Prentice attended the fun filled event.
Deb Sommerfeldt from the Maplecreek center taught the girls about dog grooming, agility and obedience. She was assisted by Deb Raatz, Rose Gottung, Sue Taylor and Wendy Jones and their various breeds of dog. Officer David Landretti and his German Shepherd “Foster” spoke to the scouts about the work that they do with the Wausau police department. Foster then posed for photos with the girls.
Finally, Liz Freidenfels and Holly Peterson from the Lincoln County Humane Society brought some “furry friends” to meet the scouts and talked about pet care, safe ways to handle and approach animals and information about the shelter and adopting a pet from the humane society. The scouts provided a collection of donations including pet food, cleaning and care items as part of this yearly service project.
