The Hatchet boys used true scoring balance to latch on their first GNC victory of the year in last Tuesday’s road game with Northland Pines.
Tomahawk wasted little time in creating the foundation for a 49-29 triumph with a 12-2 first-quarter lead.
“We got off to a nice start,” THS coach Tim Albert said. “We executed well, got shots and had only one turnover. On defense, we really locked them down and forced them to turn the ball over with our full-court pressure.”
The Hatchets just kept rolling, pushing it to 20-7 at the half, 35-17 after three quarters and even kicked off the fourth with a 10-0 run.
“We really needed this win,” Albert said. “We had lost three straight close games and this was a nice win for us. We have been really competitive in the last couple of weeks, and it was nice to get a road win.”
“I thought our defense was great, especially in the first half. We turned them over with our half and full court pressure, and really made them uncomfortable.”
“We weren’t able to hit any three’s tonight (0-6) and we only got to the foul line six times (1-6), but we did a very nice job of executing and getting great opportunities. We were also very good in the open floor and that led to easy baskets.”
Five players scored at least 8 points, Jordan Roessler (12), Lorne Ahrens (9), Jared Jarvensivu (8), Fletcher Schoone (8) and Jon Nyberg (8). Additonal contributions came from: Nyberg (9 r, 4 st); Jarvensivu (4 r, 3 st, 4 a); Schoone (4 r); Roessler (3 r); and Ahrens (3 r).
Tomahawk improved to 5-7 on the season and 1-5 in the GNC. N. Pines fell to 0-5 and 1-12.
