Agnes R. Hockett

Agnes R. Hockett, age 77, of Merrill, died Friday, January 11, 2013, at Pine Crest Nursing Home, under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice.

She was born March 30, 1935, in Waukesha, the daughter of the late Ernest and Christine (Dahl) Pettis. She married Neil J. Hockett on June 4, 1955, in Dubuque, IA. He preceded her in death on April 26, 2000.
Agnes was born and raised in the Waukesha area. She and her husband owned and operated several businesses over the years, including the “Our Place” tavern and the “Do Drive In” restaurant. Agnes most recently worked 21 1/2 years at the Merrill Walmart Store, retiring at the age of 75. Agnes loved to travel with her daughters, spending the holidays with family gathered and quilting with the Habitat for Humanity quilters. She also enjoyed sewing, growing African Violets and Christmas Cactus and eating out with her friends. Agnes will be remembered as a very sweet and kind person.
She is survived by 4 daughters; E. Rene’ (Jerome) Daley and Roxane (Dennis) Pike both of Merrill, Raeane (Lloyd) Skinner of Phoenix, AZ and Rhonda (Sandy DeWeese) Hockett of Durham, NC. One son, Ronald Hockett of Appleton, one step-daughter, Connie Green of Milwaukee. One sister, Phyllis Howlett of Oconomowoc and 2 brothers; Robert (Shirley “Daisy”) Pettis of Waukesha and Carl (Wilma) Pettis of Eagle. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
Along with her parents and husband, Agnes was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice
Billings. Two brothers; LeRoy and a brother in infancy and one great-grandson who died in infancy.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Thursday, January 17, 2013, at Christ United Methodist Church in Merrill. The Rev. Don Entenman will officiate. Inurnment will be in Merrill Memorial Park. Friends may call from 4PM to 8PM Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at the Waid Funeral Home and again on Thursday at the church from 9AM to 10AM.
