Tomahawk swimmers top Medford

The Hatchet boys swim team ran into a buzzsaw when it hosted Lakeland on Tuesday. The T-Birds took all but one first place on the way to a 119-51 win.
“They had already beaten Rhinelander 106 to 52 and Medford 127 to 32 before coming to the Hatchet pool ,” THS coach Marion Kohl said. “The shootout will come for them on Thursday night when they host Shawano. Shawano beat THS with the score of 117 to 51, almost exactly tonight’s score – so it’ll be interesting to see how they match up.
“As a result of competition against such a large and deep team like the T-Birds, we prefer to highlight the time improvements that the Hatchets turned in. Another highlight for this team is that at each and every meet so far, all 11 swimmers have contributed to overall points. It truly is a team effort.”
The winning 200 free team of Logan Loretz (25.64), Josh Phillips (30.03), P.J. Ehn (28.98) and Vic Ierulli (27.26) cut two seconds off their time with a 1:51.73.
THS swam 2-3 in the 100 brea with Loretz (1:20.54) and Kameron Knipfer (1:22.73). Ierulli went 2nd in the 500 free (6:58.56).
Thirds were turned in by: Aaron Becker (50 free, :27.57); Loretz (100 fly, 1:15.65); Phillips (100 back, 1:27.04); the 200 medley (Paul Schneiderwent, Wyatt Schumitsch, Ben Yirsa, Ehn, 2:29.27); the 200 free (Schneiderwent, Yirsa, Schumitsch, Mesha Harcinovic, 2:04.85); and the 400 free (Becker, Alex Kuehn, Harcinovic, Ierulli, 4:32.92).
