Hatchet boys off to 2-0 beginning

The Hatchet boys jumped out to a solid start, handling Three Lakes 71-39 on Nov. 15, then toppling Lincoln Hills 56-38 last Tuesday.

The Eagles of Lincoln Hills actually scored the game’s first six points, but THS recovered for quarter leads of 15-10, 32-18 and 38-24 leading to an 18-12 fourth.
“We struggled with turnovers tonight and didn’t play very well offensively,” THS coach Tim Albert said. “But our defensive effort was very good. We forced them to take perimeter shots and really rebounded the basketball.”
Jared Jarvensivu gave 19 points and 4 assists, Jon Nyberg offered 15 points and 23 boards, and Lorne Ahrens provided 8 points, 16 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists. Fletcher Schoone (8 p, 4 r) and Chris Schoone (3 p, 4 r) backed them up.
Tomahawk-FG: 18-61 (30%); FT: 17-25 (68%).
Draining the Lakes
A 21-3 second quarter blew open a 17-10 Three Lakes game. THS held 14-11 and 19-16 edges the rest of the way.
“Overall we had a nice performance for the first game of the year,” Albert said. “The guys played really hard and our defense was pretty good. Offensively we were very good when we were patient and found the open man. We got a ton of good looks from behind the arc, they just didn’t fall tonight. We were able to get a lot of second and third chances because the guys did such a nice job crashing the boards.”
Nyberg (24 p, 16 r, 3 bl), Jarvensivu (9 p, 7 a, 4 r), Jordan Roessler (9 p, 4 r, 6 st), Philip Skubal (6 p, 8 r), C. Schoone (4 p, 6 r, 2 bl), F. Schoone (4 p, 7 a), Andrew Olson (7 p), Jon Barkholz (4 p, 3 r), Ahrens (4 p) all contributed to the win.
Tomahawk-FG: 27-65 (42%); FT: 13-25 (52%)
