Tedman E. Brunow, age 91, of Merrill, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2012, at Walnut Grove, Merrill.
Tedman was born Jan. 31, 1921, in Merrill, son of the late Frank and Margaret Brunow. He married Phyllis Moore on Aug. 28, 1944. She survives.
Ted began working at Skipper’s Restaurant in Merrill when he was 15 years old. He then became involved with the C.C.C. (Civilian Conservation Corps) before enlisting in the United States Navy. Ted served his country during World War II and the Korean Conflict. After he was discharged from the Navy, Ted and his wife owned and operated the Bon-Ton Cafe in Wausau. He eventually went to work for the Holiday Inn system and became a very successful chef. Ted was a member of V.F.W. Post 1638, Merrill and the American Legion. Ted enjoyed deer, bird, and bear hunting, trout and Coho salmon fishing, and snowmobiling. Ted was also a member of “Merrill’s Popcorn Club.”
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Phyllis Brunow, of Merrill; one daughter, Helen (Pat) Timbers, of University Place, WA; two grandsons, Peter (Debbie) Timbers, of Casper, WY, and Sam (Kendra) Timbers, of Lakewood, WA; six great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Titus, Caleb, Elijah, Levi, and Audrey; and several nieces and nephews. Ted was preceded in death by one sister, Marion Siesenopp; and two brothers, Arthur and Robert Brunow.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by V.F.W. Post 1638, Merrill. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
