Wausau West may have dominated the score of Thursday’s dual swim meet, but the Bluejay girls pulled out all the stops in their performances.
The Warriors won a 130-40 meet.
“(It) was a big night for the Merrill swim team because it was our senior night, our last duel meet of the season, and it was a home meet” MHS coach Allie Thut said. “The girls had a phenomenal meet. Of our 27 individual swims, 21 were best times, and of those best times the dropped time ranged from 0.3 to 26 seconds.
“We also had a school record broken tonight. Jennica Jahnke broke a 15-year-old record in the 100 breast. The time was a 1:16.56 and she smashed it going a 1:14.59.
“The season is coming to an end, but I look forward to seeing how the team finishes the season out.”
Jahnke captured the only MHS first with her breaststroke race. Kendyl Pettit was edged out while placing second in the 50 free (:27.73) and also pulled it off in the 100 free (1:00.03). Emily Gessler ranked 3rd in the 100 back in 1:16.52.
Merrill also collected 3rd-place points in the three relays, including: the 200 free (Jahnke, Miranda Jahnke, Robin Opsahl, Pettit, 1:51.44); the 200 medley (Gessler, J. Jahnke, Liv Wilmink, M. Jahnke, 2:16.04); and the 400 free (Opsahl, Taylor LaBorde, Wilmink, Pettit, 4:27.23).
