The Hatchet swim team swam past the Merrill girls 126-43 last Tuesday.
Tomahawk grabbed the lion’s share of the placings, sweeping three events-the 200 free with Baylee Dallmann (2:19.56), Kelsey Maki (2:26.16) and Taylor Hansen (2:28.65); the 200 IM with Morgan Weber (2:451.41), Hannah Schmit (2:43.20) and Mikhayla Kleich (2:45.36) and the 100 back with Katherine Russell (1:11.33), Madeline McPherson (1:14.69) and Sami Kleich (1:14.82).
The Hatchets also ranked 1-2 in the 100 fly (Karli Cecil, 1:12.41/ Russell, 1:13.95), the 500 free (M. Kleich, 6:21.05/ Maki, 6:39.39), the 200 medley rel. (Russell, Michaela Galganski, Cecil, Weber, 2:03.33/ McPherson, Schmit, S. Kleich, M. Kleich, 2:12.11), and the 400 free rel. (M. Kleich, S. Kleich, Dallman, Galganski, 4:19.91/ Hansen, McPherson, Mary Galloy, Maki, 4:39.37). THS also won the 100 free (Weber, 1:00.52), 100 brea (Galganski, 1:18.33) and the 200 free rel. (Galganski, Dallman, Cecil, Weber, 1:52.21).
“We rearranged the line-ups for both meets against Merrill and Wittenberg to allow some variety before the end of season showdowns with Medford and Lakeland,” THS coach Theresa L’Esperance said. “The team is showing great potential..”
The Bluejays pulled out the 50 free with Jennica Jahnke in :27.65. She also was 2nd in the 100 brea (1:20.40), as were Kendyl Pettit in the 100 free (1:00.92) and the 200 free team (Pettit, Miranda Jahnke, Robin Opsahl, J. Jahnke, 1:54.16).
Placing 3rd were: Opsahl (100 fly, 1:19.99); Taylor LaBorde (500 free, 6:58.54); the 200 medley rel. (LaBorde, J. Jahnke, Opsahl, Pettit, 2:13.35); and the 400 free rel. (LaBorde, Liv Wilminik, Courtney Grieser, M. Jahnke, 4:41.60).
“The team as a whole had a great meet,” MHS coach Allie Thut said. “They all continue to drop more and more time each meet. There were some really close races that were fun to watch and cheer on. Jennica had a great meet taking first and second in her individual events and dropping time in both races.”
THS went 2-3 in the 50 free (Cecil, :28.42/ S. Kleich, :29.20). Other 3rds came from: Dallman (100 free, 1:03.46); Schmit (100 brea, 1:23.43); and the 200 free rel. (Schmit, Hansen, Galloy, Maki, 1:54.25).
Tiger visit
The Bluejays hosted Marshfield on Thursday in a 99-68 loss.
“This was our first home meet of the year and the team took full advantage of being at their home pool,” Thut said. “If it wasn’t their first time swimming the event we had all best times in every individual event except for one.
“So far, this was their best meet of the year. They were competitive and created a great pool atmosphere to swim in. We had a lot of first and second place finishes which was great to see.”
The Jays ranked 1-3 in both the 500 free (Pettit, 6:15.98/ Madison Dillinger, 7:21.52) and 200 free rel. (LaBorde, Grieser, Holli Halffmann, J. Jahnke, 2:01.66/ Jeza Kleinschmidt, Adriana Wood, Michelle Evans, Emily Gessler, 2:15.04).

Ashwaubenon Invite
Tomahawk ranked 14th in Saturday’s 17-team meet in Appleton.
“Heading into the big DI swim invite in Appleton, the Hatchets were 4-1,” L’Esperance said. “We knew the meet would be tough, but nothing could prepare us for the large school domination. The only two D2 schools to beat Tomahawk were Ashwaubenon and Marinette, both rather large schools. Our B relays were very strong, only losing to three D1 teams all day.”
Weber scored 8th in the 50 free in :26.42. The top relays included: 200 free (12th, Weber, Galganski, Dallman, Cecil, 1:51.57); 200 medley (15th, Russell, Cecil, Weber, Schmit, 2:06.95); and the 400 free (17th, Galganski, S. Kleich, Russell, M. Kleich, 4:12.70).
Witt-Birn
The THS girls swept the 200 free (Cecil, 2:19.01/ S. Kleich, 2:23.58/ Galloy, 2:31.59) and 100 back (Maki, 1:14.24/ McPherson, 1:16.51/ Schmit, 1:16.85) in Thursday’s 119-49 triumph over Wittenberg.
They went top two in the 200 IM (Russell, 2:36.84/ Dallman, 2:41.01) and the 200 medley (Maki, Weber, Russell, Schmit, 2:07.71/ McPherson, Galganski, M. Kleich, Hansen, 2:13.59).
The girls ranked 1-3 in the 50 free (Weber, :26.94/ M. Kleich, :29.95), 500 free (Russell , 6:12.33/ Dallman, 6:21.08), 200 free (Cecil, Galganski, Dallman, Weber, 1:52.73/ M. Kleich, Hansen, Galloy, S. Kleich, 1:58.84).
