MAPS Interim Superintendent

The Merrill Area Public School Board announced Tuesday that it has named Don Stevens interim superintendent for the 2012-13 school year. A contract has been offered to Mr. Stevens, but is still subject to legal counsel and Mr. Stevens’ approval. The announcement comes after the board previously voted to extend its search for a permanent replacement into the next school year.
Mr. Stevens, who has more than 30 years of educational experience, including serving as a superintendent, will retire from CESA 5, where he is currently the agency administrator. In addition to serving as interim superintendent, Stevens will also continue his role as consultant to the district in the process to find a permanent superintendent. Stevens will assume his new role on August 1.
“We are thrilled to name Don Stevens as the interim superintendent for the 2012-13 school year,” said Bill Jaeger, school board president. “Don has been working with the district to find a permanent superintendent, and he knows our board, our schools and our community well. It’s a great fit.”
In addition to working in his leadership roles as a superintendent and CESA administrator, Mr. Stevens also served as an assistant state superintendent at the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
“While we are no less committed to finding an outstanding leader to serve as a permanent superintendent of the Merrill Area Public Schools, our district is in very good hands under Don Stevens’ leadership,” said Jaeger.
