David C. Krause

David C. Krause, age 84, of Merrill, died Monday, April 2, 2012, in Merrill.
David was born April 16, 1927, in Merrill, son of the late Frederick and Anna (Berndt) Krause. He married Shirley Fletcher in August of 1948. She preceded him in death on July 15, 1998. David served in the United States Army during World War II. He enlisted on June 14, 1945 in Milwaukee, and was honorably discharged on January 27, 1947 in Fort Sheridan, Illinois. He served with the Occupation Forces in Italy. David had worked at Wausau Papers – Brokaw Division for 41 1/2 years. At his retirement, he was the Maintenance Supervisor. David was a member of St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ, Merrill. David was also a member of V.F.W. Post 1638, Merrill, and the American Legion. He was the past-president of the Merrill Eagles Club. David had played baseball with the Merrill Rangers, and also enjoyed playing softball. He was an avid Brewers fan, and attended spring training games when he and his wife vacationed in Arizona. David also enjoyed golfing and while on vacation in the southwest would attend P.G.A. tournaments. David was a bowler and was a member of the Merrill Bowling Hall of Fame. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and following the Green Bay Packers.
Survivors include one daughter, Nancy (Gary) Frisch, of Merrill; two sons, Steve Krause, of Merrill, and Craig (Jeri) Krause, of Eau Claire; seven grandchildren, Andy Frisch, Rob (Sarah) Frisch, Sara Elsmore, Paul (Alissa) Krause, Adam (Amy) Krause, John (Alyssa) Krause, and Laura (Caleb) Rykal; ten great-grandchildren, Asher, Bennett, Delaney, Marley, Elijah, Zoe, Noah, Dawson, Dominic, and Avery; two great-grandchildren on-the-way; two sisters, Dorothy Koehler and Bernice Teskey, both of Merrill; and one brother, Fred Krause, of Merrill. David was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Anna Krause; his wife, Shirley Krause; three sisters, Alma Volz, Loretta Ziemke, and an infant sister; and two brothers, George Krause and Alvin Krause.
The funeral will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, April 7, 2012, at St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ, Merrill, followed by military rites conducted by the Merrill V.F.W. Post 1638 Honor Guard. The Rev. Jack Kraaz will officiate. Entombment will take place on Monday, April 8, 2012, at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Friday at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, and after 10:00 A.M. Saturday at the church.
