Alice J. Proulx

Alice Jeanette Proulx, 90, of Merrill, died Friday, December 30, 2011 at Pine Crest Nursing Home under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice Services.

She was born January 9, 1921 to the late Edward and Alice (Berrand) Kucera. She married Joseph Proulx on June 20, 1941 in Minocqua, Wisconsin. He died on June 16, 1983.
Jeanette was raised on a farm in Hazelhurst. She attended school in a one room schoolhouse. When she was 14, she kept house for a priest in Minocqua. She then worked at Huber’s Resort in Minocqua as the Head Cabin Girl, where she met her husband, Joe who also worked there. After they married, they moved to Merrill. Jeanette did figurine painting for Paul Koebe. Later she worked as an assistant housekeeper for St. Francis Xavier Church for many years and then for St. Robert Catholic Church. She also worked for Carl’s Foodlane and did seamstress work for Lincoln Cleaners. In her later years, she worked for her daughter and son-in-law in the ginseng gardens. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
Jeanette is survived by her son Ed (Kate) Proulx of Merrill; her daughter Kathy (Thomas) Burish of Irma; 1 sister, Marilou Kucera of Jackpot, Nevada; 11 Grandchildren; 25 Great-grandchildren; and 1 Great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Joe, 2 brothers and 5 sisters.
Funeral Mass will be 11:00 am Thursday, January 5, 2012 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Merrill. Father Mike McLain will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 PM on Wednesday, January 4, and again Thursday 9:30 – 10:30 am at the Waid Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Merrill. Donations may be made in Jeanette’s name to the Merrill Food Pantry. The Waid Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements. On-line condolences may be made at www.waidfuneral.com
