WFCA honors Paul

Merrill’s Ray Paul can add a WFCA All-State Honorable Mention awards to the others he received after a strong season for the MHS football team.
The senior two-way starter earned the honors at defensive back.
“Ray was the leader of our defense and was the only player in the GNC to be first team all conference on both sides of the ball,” MHS coach Tom Tourtillott said. “He had a knack for being in the right place at the right time; for example, his interception at the end of the game to seal the victory in Ashland. Ray had double the number of total tackles than the second place teammate in 2011. Ray is a competitor that wants to win at everything he does!”
Paul finished with 56 solos and 15 assisted tackles, 3 interceptions with 59 return yards, and a caused fumble.
“I’m proud of him and his dedication and his work ethic,” John Paul, MHS offensive coordinator and Ray’s father, said. “Like I’ve always told him, ‘Good things happen when you work hard,’ and in this case it has.
“He brings a great attitude to practices and games. He’s focused.”
