Police warn of daytime burglaries

Over the past several months, the Merrill Police Department has been investigating several reported daytime burglaries. To date, 10 burglaries have been reported to the Merrill Police Department, all occurring during the daylight hours. The investigation has shown the homes to be entered while the homeowner is away. There was one reported burglary with the homeowner at his residence, however was busy doing yard work. Persons are taking cash and other smaller valuable items.
The Merrill Police Department has received reports of suspicious activity in the neighborhoods where these burglaries are occurring. Neighbors are reporting a younger male knocking on their doors asking for directions or asking to use their jumper cables.
The Merrill Police Department would like to remind everyone not to keep cash in the residence even if you think it’s hidden in a safe place as there is no safe place to a burglar. If you see something, please call the Merrill Police Department immediately and report the activity at 715-536-8311.
