Seaman brothers become Eagle Scouts

Both Michael and Andrew Seaman have joined the rank of Eagle Scout; Michael at his board of review on June 13 and Andrew on June 29 at his own board of review. They are members of Troop 599 in Merrill.

At the ages of 7 the Seaman brothers joined as wolves in Pack 500 at their school, St. Francis Xavier Catholic School. Over the past 9 years, both have enjoyed earning the necessary 12 Eagle Scout required badges in addition to numerous others. Throughout these years Andrew and Michael have worked to earn awards such as the Light of Christ, Parvuli Dei and the final religious award, Ad Altare Dei. In 2009, while at Camp Tesomas, both became members of the Order of the Arrow. In 2010 Andrew and Michael became members of the Brotherhood.

As scouts, Andrew and Michael benefitted from helping many fellow scouts complete projects for their Eagle rank before starting on individual projects of his own. In the fall of 2010, with the help of scouts and friends, Andrew planned and lead work crews in the construction of his Eagle Project. A 28-foot long compost structure now stands firmly at the Nels P. Evjue Memorial School Forest. The facility consists of four sections and will surely help Merrill students to study biological and environmental processes in the future.

For Michael’s project, he planned, organized and provided leadership to build a 180-foot boardwalk. This boardwalk was comprised of 23 sections and is also placed at the School Forest. The Troop 599 scouts families were the construction crew for this boardwalk. Now, visiting students will more easily walk in the sometimes low-lying area at the school forest to observe the plant and animal life.

Being involved in Boy Scouts has proven to be a worthwhile endeavor for Michael and Andrew as they have enjoyed tremendous opportunities. They have been active members in their troop in various leadership roles. As a high adventure trip they both went white-water rafting on the Arkansas River in Colorado in the summer of 2010. Soon afterward, Michael and Andrew hiked 108 miles while backpacking in the Rocky Mountains with other Troop 599 scouts at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.

Michael and Andrew will be juniors at Merrill High School where they are involved in Octagon Club and are 3-sport athletes competing in cross country, basketball and track. Both are active youth at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Andrew and Michael are the sons of Mark and Jill Seaman.
