Terry W. Alft

Mr. Terry W. Alft, age 69, of Merrill, died Monday, August 8, 2011 at his home under the care of his family and Aspirus Comfort Care & Hospice Services.
Terry was born May 14, 1942, in Merrill, son of the late Melvin and Elaine (Alberg) Alft. He married Judy A. Knispel on October 30, 1965, at St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ, Merrill. She survives. Terry was a veteran of the United States Army and served from 1961 until 1963, and was stationed in Korea. Terry had worked as a press operator at Graphic Packaging, in Wausau. He enjoyed playing cards, horseshoes, playing softball, woodworking, camping, watching the Green Bay Packers, and spending time with his grandkids.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Alft, of Merrill; one daughter, Dena (Bruce) Novotny, of Elk Mound, WI; two sons, Cary (Jill) Alft, of Irma; and Darin (Valerie Sabatke) Alft, of Merrill; six grandchildren, Ashley (Aaron) Konopacki, Nathan Alft, Dimitri and Dylan Alft, and Adam and Scott Novotny; one sister, Joanne (Bob) Harkner, of Eagle River; and one brother, James (Jan) Alft, of Merrill.
The funeral will be at 11:00 A.M. Friday, August 12, 2011, at St. Stephen’s United Church of Christ, Merrill. Pastor Missy Holdorf will officiate. Burial will be in Merrill Memorial Park, with graveside military rites conducted by the Merrill V.F.W. Post 1638 Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, and at the church on Friday beginning at 9:30 A.M. The Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill, is assisting the family with arrangements.
