Glenn O. Christiansen, age 82, of Merrill, died Friday, July 29, 2011, at Ministry Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill, under the care of his family, Ministry Home Care Hospice, and the hospital staff.
Glenn was born March 5, 1929, in Joliet, IL, son of the late Paul and Amelia (Luhring) Christiansen. He married Shirley Massey on Feb. 14, 1956. She preceded him in death in January of 1996. Glenn then married Judith Wayda in January of 1999. She survives.
Glenn had been a dairy farmer in the Town of Scott, Lincoln County. Farming was more than an occupation to Glenn, it was his passion. He also enjoyed raising a garden. Glenn was a veteran of the U.S. Army from November of 1954 until his honorable discharge in November of 1956, and was stationed stateside.
Survivors include his wife, Judith Christiansen, Merrill; sons, Dale (Cindy) Christiansen, and Robert (Jennifer) Christiansen, both of Merrill; grandchildren, Jennifer (John) Plisch, Derek (fiancè, Rachel) Christiansen, Kyle (fiancè, Krista) Christiansen, Becca and Stacy Christiansen, and Anna Melder; great grandchildren, Sady and Brayden Plisch; step children, Dan (Sherry) Wayda, Debbie VanDeWeerd, Patti (Jeff) Woller, Bill (Jean) Wayda, Rob (Christina) Wayda, Karen (with Gin) Wayda, Jim (Ann) Wayda, and Ed (Amy) Wayda; 20 step grandchildren; 17 step great grandchildren; one step great great grandchild; and his godchild, Barb (Ken) Houser. Glenn is preceded in death by step son, Michael Wayda; sisters, Marietta and Viola; and brothers, Franklin and Lester.
A public visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5, at the Taylor-Stine Funeral Home, Merrill.
A private family memorial service will be held thereafter.
Burial will take place in Snow Hill Cemetery, Town of Scott, with graveside military rites conducted by the Merrill V.F.W. Post 1638 Honor Guard.
The family suggests that memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society.
