Scouts spruce up park

On May 18, members of St. John, Boy Scout Troop 599 completed a service project that helped spruce up Stange’s Park in Merrill, near the three arch stone bridge. The scouts were approached by a group that plants the flowers in this area and asked if they could clean up and repaint the letters that spell “Stange Public Park” along the river bank. The request was to have the letters cleaned and painted before flower planting, which occurs after Memorial Day to hopefully prevent flowers from being frozen.

Helping keep the city of Merrill and its parks clean and beautiful, ties in greatly with Scouting’s commitment to teach boys good citizenship, and loyalty to their community. After the painting was complete the scouts took it upon themselves to clean that section of the river bank for garbage left over from the winter and early spring tornado.
