Salewske on to sectional

The Hatchet golf team missed out on its goal of qualifying for sectional in last Tuesday’s WIAA Medford Regional at Black River, but all wasn’t lost since senior Troy Salewske moved on as an individual qualifier.
Salewske shot a 39-39-78 to finish tied for seventh overall and the top individual qualifier of the four not already on a qualifying team.
The Hatchets ended up with a 353 to place sixth in the 11-team event. Backing up Salewske were Troy Timm (47-43-90), Joe Hinz (45-46-91), Ole Hanson (47-47-94) and Alex Tollison (60-40-100).
“As a team we shot well above our average today,” Gerstenberger said. “We had way too many blow up holes for this late in the season.”
Ashland shot 319 to capture the win ahead of Medford and Hayward, who both carded 327 as a team.
Team standings-Ashland 319, Medford 327, Hayward 327, Northwestern 331, Rice Lake 345, Tomahawk 353, Cumberland 360, Barron 362, Ladysmith 380, Chetek-Weyerhaeuser 453, Spooner 475.
Salewke competed in the WIAA Hayward Sectional on Tuesday. Results for the event will be covered in next week’s issue.
