NTC Christian Academy teacher wins fire safety grant

Thanks to a grant from State Farm Insurance and the Professional Firefighters of Wisconsin Charities, Inc., Wisconsin Alliance for Fire Safety (WAFS) is proud to acclaim 7th grade teacher Isaac Litke from NTC Christian Academy in Merrill has won a $500 grant in the annual WAFS “Fire & Burn Prevention Teacher Essay Contest.”

The contest was open to 4th through 7th grade teachers throughout the state of Wisconsin. This year there were six winners – two of which were grand prizes of $1,500 each.

Mr. Litke, a conscientious teacher regarding fire and burn safety, had entered the “Fire & Burn Prevention Teacher Essay Contest” in October 2010 during fire safety month. Mr. Litke’s essay described how he incorporated the annual fire safety insert into his classroom curriculum during the academic year.

Mr. Litke wrote an essay on training the 7th graders at The New Testament Christian Academy to become home fire inspectors at their house; looking for working smoke detectors, devising an escape plan, having a meeting place and other fire safety items throughout the home. The students then came back to school and helped those students in the lower grades to do the same at their home.

“The Merrill Fire Department is very proud of Mr. Litke and would like to congratulate him and his students,” said assistant Merrill Fire Chief Steve Hintze.
