Lola Beatrice Waid

Lola Beatrice Waid, 86, Merrill, died Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Ministry Good Samaritan Health Center, Merrill.

Born in the Town of Merrill, Wisconsin on Thursday, December 25, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Hjalmar and Alma Beatrice (Duranceau) Stevenson. Lola was the wife of DeForest Waid. They were married on November 6, 1942 in Merrill. He died July 6, 1983.
Lola worked as a Red Cross Nurses Aid during WWII at Holy Cross Hospital in Merrill. She then worked as a Medical Secretary for 29 years for Dr. James Bigalow in Merrill, retiring in 1986. Lola was a member of Bible Presbyterian Church, former President of the Bethany Guild, and former Sunday School teacher. She was a former president of the Toast Mistress Club, former member of the Lincoln County Homemakers Club, member of the Park City Study Group and an active member of the Merrill Christian Womens Club. Lola headed up the New Day Grief Support Group for 15 years. She enjoyed reading, day trips and tours, visiting with family and friends, going out to eat, and especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her 2 sons: Alan (Mary) Waid and Paul (Missy) Waid, all of Merrill; sister: Joan (Roger) Gutknecht, Merrill; brother: Dale (Marlene) Stevenson, Miles City, MT; daughter-in-law: Tana (Mark) Frost, Merrill; eight grandchildren: Kory (Christy Gibson) Waid, Deanna (Ryan) Neff, Kurt (Kasi), Matt, Katie, Melanie, Scott and Elizabeth Waid; and four great-grandchildren: Mylee, Aubree & Kenneth Neff and Konner Waid. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband DeForest, one son, Dean Waid, two brothers, Floyd and Lee Stevenson and one sister, Vera Sutton.
Services will be 11:00 AM Monday, February 28, 2011 at Bible Presbyterian Church in Merrill. The Rev. Robert Smallman will officiate. Burial will follow in Snow Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM Sunday, February 27, 2011 at Waid Funeral Home and again from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church on Monday. The family requests memorials be given to Bible Presbyterian Church. Waid Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.waidfuneral.com.
