Deputy injured during traffic stop

A Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputy was injured after being struck by a vehicle Sunday night during a traffic stop.

Deputy Eric Krause was on patrol in the Town of Bradley south of Tomahawk when he stopped a vehicle for speeding. The stop took place on the off ramp from US Highway 51 to County Road S at 9:34 p.m.

The driver, Vicki A. Fritz, 51 of Milwaukee, was stopped for speeding on the highway. As Krause was issuing Fritz her citation for traveling 91 m.p.h. in a 65 m.p.h. zone, she drove off, running over Krause’s foot.

Fritz was stopped again as she tried to re-enter US Highway 51. She was taken into custody by Krause and held until a Trooper from the Wisconsin State Patrol and other deputies arrived at the scene to assist.

Deputy Krause was then transported by Tomahawk EMS to Ministry Sacred Heart Hospital where he was treated and released.

Fritz was transported to the Lincoln County Jail. The Tomahawk Police Department has taken over the criminal investigation and is expecting to charge Fritz with felony and misdemeanor charges following this incident.
