Renewed search yields bone fragments, items of interest

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office completed an expanded search at the Wilberding property in the Town of Wilson north and west of the City of Tomahawk Friday after bone fragments and other items was discovered there.

On Wednesday family members conducting a search of the property found what appeared to be bone fragments. Those items were collected as evidence by an investigator from the sheriff’s office. On Thursday an additional search was led by Sheriff Jeff Jaeger with the assistance of the Wisconsin State Crime Lab. The Lincoln County Highway Department, with additional help from the Wisconsin State Patrol and the Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation also provided equipment or manpower.

Several items of interest collected at the site over the last two days have been taken to the Wisconsin State Crime Lab for analysis. Investigators are awaiting the results of testing of these items by the crime lab. ??¢??????¯

Ben Wilberding was 21-years old when he was last seen May 24, 1996 at the property where the search took place. The investigation into Wilberding’s disappearance is an active case.
